Gao Weijie: Song at the Frontier-Pipa and Folk Pull-String Orchestra

Introduction

Ancient music "Song at the Frontier" was first seen in Pinghu’s 《Li Fang Garden Pipa Scores》. The piece consists of 3 parts: "Pubescent", "Autumn Thoughts" and "tear drops", with theme as Wang Zhaojun leaving Han and marrying the Khan, stressing the depiction of her resentments of suffering cold treatment, being framed by painter Mao Yanshou.

This transcription was composed by Gao Weijie at the invitation of young pipa performer Yang Jing and Liu Shun (conductor of the Chinese Junior Bowstring Orchestra).
