Introduction

Hu Jia was original a winded instrument of ancient minority in northwest China. At the end of the Han Dynasty, the war broke out continually, and Cai Wenji was plundered to the north,  married to Zuo Xian King of the Hsiungnu. Cao Cao redeemed her back home 12 years later. As she was good at poetry and music, she wrote the long poem "Hujia 18 Pai" to describe her tragic experiences. Dongting Lan of the Tang Dynasty composed guqin music according to the poem, there are several different scores handed down.

In 1990, the composer adapted “Hujia 18 Pai” based on several different scores handed down into folk chamber music. Its structure is reduced from the original 18 parts to 4, to make it more concise and compact.
