The original quartet was composed in 2005 for erhu, zhonghu, cello and double bass at the invitation of Singapore Chinese Folk Orchestra, now adapted to stringed quartet.
The music takes the pitch-class collection transferred from the last 4 numbers of composer’s home telephone as the main material, to symbolize various kinds of information through telecommunication. It expresses reactions and feelings of happiness or worries triggered by all kinds of remote messages. Finally, the music has a open end as infinite extension of infinite pitch orders evolved from basic assemble, implying the endless expectation of the remote messages.
