Born in Xi’an, China, Chang-Ying Yang began her musical education at the age of 10 and later entered the highly selective Xi’an Conservatory Preparatory Division with the highest audition marks in cello performance.

Biography

Born in Xi’an, China, Chang-Ying Yang began her musical education at the age of 10 and later entered the highly selective Xi’an Conservatory Preparatory Division with the highest audition marks in cello performance. At age of 15,she gave her first cello debut recital in Xi’an People’s Grand Theater and broadcasted through out the region.  In 1994 after winning the 3rd China National Cello competition, she received the Hong Kong-Shanghai Bank scholarship and attended the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts studying with Professor Mr. Ray Wang. Hence, receiving her bechalor’s degree on cello performance, Miss Yang moved to the USA, contiuning a higher musical education at the world well-know music institute, the Juilliard School.  In year 2002 Miss Yang accepted a full scholarship to do her Master’s degree in both Cello Performance and the Orchestral Performance Program at the Manhattan School of Music. She was a student of Alan Stepansky(formal Associate Principal Cellist of New York Philharmonic).

Miss Yang has participated in the master classes of Yo Yo Ma, Julian Lloyd-Webber, Lynn Harrell and Zara Nelsova,ect. She has also participated in the Carinthia Arts Festival, the Casals Festival, Aspen Music Festival and Music Master Festival in Kazusa. Chang Ying Yang has been frequently invited to perform at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, the Carnegie Hall, the 92nd Street Y, and the Merkin Hall.  She was also an active performer in Hong Kong,at such performance venue, like the Government House, the Culture Centre and Hong Kong City Hall both as a soloist and a chamber musician. In addition, she was also invited to give a live recital for the classical music station of Hong Kong, Channel 4, in the “Young Musicians of Today” program. In the year of 1997, Miss Yang was chosen to perform as the soloist with the Guang Zhou Symphony in its Celebration Concert Series of Hong Kong’ s Return to China. She had also toured with the Academy Orchestra and Asian Youth Orchestra to Austria, the United Kingdom, France, Spain and the United States. In the years 2005-2008, Miss Yang performed as the principal cellist with Chamber Orchestra of New York and DiCapo Opera. She is now a cellist of the China Philharmonic Orchestra.

In recent events, she has performed the Brahms piano trio in B major, the Schubert piano trio in Bb major, and the Arensky piano trio No.1 with the Cadenza Piano Trio. In the year of 2017, she has also recorded an album of Chinese tunes for the HD-Hall Recording Production.
