Biography

GUO Chengcheng, soprano of China National Opera House, was awarded "Five Ones" Project Awards of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, “Outstanding Young Performers” of the Ministry of Culture and “Young Tip-top Talent” of the Ministry of Culture.

GUO Chengcheng graduated from École Normale de Musique de Paris and got two master's degrees, Diplome Superieur d’art Lyrique in 2008 and Diplome Superieur de Concertiste in 2009, both with her top results. She was the student of Elisabeth Rogier, a famous France soprano, and Peggy Bouveret, a former soprano of America Metropolitan Opera, and had been guided by Janine Reiss, the vocal music guidance of Maria Calas, for a long time. She obtained the special award approved unanimously by the committee, and has been the youngest singer diploma winner (23 years old) 90 years since the school was established. Meanwhile, she obtained Advanced Diploma of French Chamber Music Singing.

During this period, GUO Chengcheng won the first place of 38th Bellini International Music Competition (China) in 2007, the third place of 39th Bellini International Music Competition (China) in 2008, the special award of French Bourgogne International Vocal Music Competition in 2009 and excellence award of International Singing Competition in the Italian Pavilion of Expo 2010 Shanghai China.

GUO Chengcheng acted as Cio-Cio-san, heroine in the Italian opera Madama Butterfly, and was then rated as “The Butterfly that GUO chengcheng played is more lovingly pathetic… She showed extraordinary talents in the stage” (Music Weekly) by the critics and media. In addition, she was heroine Nedda in Pagliacci, heroine Gilda in Rigoletto, heroine Marie in La Fille du Regiment, heroine Violetta in La Traviata, puppet Olympia in The Tales of Hoffmann, heroine Lakme in Lakme, heroine Manon in Manon, Adele in Die Fledermaus, heroine Pamina and The Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Asia in Arshin Mal Alan, etc.; heroines in operas originally created by China National Opera House, including Romance of Rawap, A Dream of Forest, Hong Bang Tailor, Bei Chuan Lan Hui and Songs of the Long March; Gehilde in Die Walküre, Waldvogel (the woodbird) in Siegfried, the Rhine fairy Woglinde in Twilight of the Gods and Das Rheingold and young shepherd in Tannhäuser, Wagner’s operas; Maria in West Side Story, heroine Cunégonde in Candide, ou l'Optimisme.

In addition to nearly 20 operas, GUO Chengcheng performed in various concerts, and held many solo concerts in many places around China. She took part in all kinds of concerts organized by China National Opera House such as Opera Classics, Opera Gala, and Introducing Classic Art into Campus for long terms. She has established long-term cooperation with Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Guiyang Symphony Orchestra, Ningbo Symphony Orchestra, Chongqing Municipal Opera Theater, Tianjin Song and Dance Theatre and so on. She has joined in performances in their music season each year, sang countless Chinese and foreign works, such as Concerto for Coloratura Sprano, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Messiah, Symphony Suites Jiangjie, etc. She visited Italy, Switzerland, France, Australia, Canada, the Middle East and other countries for many times on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and China National Opera House.
